Apple Explores AI Search Integration for Safari Browser Amid $20B Google Deal Talks
Apple Inc. is actively considering the integration of AI-powered search capabilities into its Safari web browser, as revealed by Eddy Cue, the company’s senior vice president of services. The disclosure came during Cue’s testimony in the U.S. Justice Department’s antitrust case against Alphabet Inc.
The tech giant currently offers OpenAI’s ChatGPT as an optional feature in Siri, with plans to incorporate Google’s Gemini AI later this year. This move forms part of a potential $20 billion annual agreement that would maintain Google as Safari’s default search provider.
Cue identified several AI search providers—including OpenAI, Perplexity AI Inc., and Anthropic PBC—as representing the future of consumer search technology. Apple appears poised to expand its partnerships with these emerging players in the AI space.
